Begin With The End in Mind: Planning Today for a Healthier Tomorrow

Are you familiar with the phrase, “Begin with the end in mind”.  It is actually a secret for manifesting what you want and desire in your life, for better or for worse.  You can find this phrase - or one that captures the essence of the meaning – in many self-help books that teach us how to achieve our goals and aims in life.  In fact, the first step to achievement begins with the end in mind.  What does it mean and how does it relate to your health?

I think it is very significant.  Most of us have not lived a life in which we have planned for good health at the end.  We live our lives and hope for good health throughout life but we never really think about planning the kind of health we want at the end of our lives.  I know when I was 30, I wasn’t thinking about how I wanted to feel at age 65 and most of us aren’t!  But that changes as we get older.

How do you want to feel in 5 years?  10 years?  20 years?  Whatever your answer may be, the time to start planning for that future is now.  The health practices and habits you form today can greatly impact how you feel in the years ahead.  If you want to feel energetic, vibrant, and healthy (even if you are feeling some of the aches and pains of an aging body), you have to ask yourself, “What will it take for me to feel GREAT in 10 years?”  You probably already know some of the answers.  It’s what I talk about all the time.

There is no magic bullet when it comes to good health and healthy aging.  You need to practice the basics first.  Clean eating, clean water, regular movement and exercise.  Avoid toxins and make detox a regular part of your lifestyle.  Take care of your nervous system with regular chiropractic check-ups.  Monitor your thoughts and thinking and weed out negative, pessimistic thoughts or thoughts of anger and resentment.  Negative emotions like fear and anger are poison to the soul and body.  Use affirmations to reprogram the mind to focus on beauty, love and positivity.  These are the things that lay the foundation for good health throughout life.

When you visualize the end of your life, what do you see?  Do you see yourself healthy and vibrant with an enthusiasm for life?  Or is the end you see one of illness, disease, medications and doctor visits? If you want a different end, then begin by changing the picture you see.  Imagine how you want to feel at age 50, 60, 70 and beyond and as you build a strong mental image of the health you desire, you find the will power and the strength to make changes that need to happen.

There are no guarantees in life and obviously anyone can experience unexpected setbacks, but the key to healthy aging is to make it intentional.  If you don’t plan for healthy aging, then you are planning for unhealthy aging.  The choice is yours.
