Spanish Black Radish, Liver Failure and Acetaminophen.
Did you know that the #1 cause of acute liver failure and death in the US is acetaminophen toxicity and overdose?
I found that statistic shocking since millions of people take Tylenol or some other form of acetaminophen every day. The liver is one of the most important organs in the body. It is the detox center of the body and is responsible for clearing the most obnoxious chemicals, drugs and medications from the body. When the liver is damaged, its ability to remove toxins is inhibited and toxins begin to accumulate in the body. This can lead to any number of health challenges. Keeping the liver healthy and functioning well is an important part of getting healthy, staying healthy and aging healthy.
Since many people rely on NSAID’s for pain relief, and acetaminophen is one of the most utilized, what can we do to support the liver and to reduce the toxic burden placed on the liver by acetaminophen?
Spanish Black Radish
On my recent trip to the Standard Process farm, we talked a lot about Spanish black radish, a cruciferous vegetable that is not very pleasant to eat but has tons of health benefits. Standard Process scientists have researched extensively the properties of SBR. This wonderful radish supports healthy digestion and elimination and, as we have discovered in more recent times, it supports detoxification. Specifically, SBR supports both phase one and phase two liver detoxification and has specifically been shown to help clear acetaminophen from the blood and urine. The researchers at Standard Process organized a study in which they measured to see the effect of SBR at clearing acetaminophen from the blood and urine. What they discovered was impressive and significant.
In a 4 week study, 2 groups of men were given a 1,000mg dose of acetaminophen. One group took 6 Spanish Black Radish tablets/day over the 4 week period and the other group took nothing. After four weeks, the group that took the SBR had a 40% reduction in metabolites of acetaminophen. That’s impressive.
If you take NSAID’s, especially acetaminophen, then I strongly urge you to start taking Spanish Black Radish from Standard Process. I take it every day for general health purposes and to support overall detoxification. Start with one/day and after a week, go up to 2/day. Continue to take 2/day for as long as you want to stay healthy.
The cost is very reasonable. A small bottle of 30 caplets is $13.50 and a large bottle of 90 caplets is $36.50.
If you take acetaminophen, I strongly urge you take Spanish Black Radish. It’s a simple, easy, inexpensive way to love yourself and to support good health.
